I’m trying to find new shapes of interest when throwing, liking the soft shapes of wet clay whilst maintaining their function as mugs or vases. These shapes were a challenge that I relish to decorate.

When teaching outreach there are left over pieces of cut out ceramic transfers. I didn’t want to waste them. I played with them a bit and tried to make patterns with them. I let particular shapes dictate a response. I experimented with getting the pattern to relate to the shape in as many ways as possible. When patterns were established with their set of rules, I then broke the rules but inevitably new patterns with new rules emerge.
